Holidaymakers left with multiple injuries as tornado batters Ibiza – Today News


 At least three people were injured after a tornado wreaked havoc across Ibiza and lifted a mobile work cabin off a construction site  Dramatic images show cars covered in bricks, overturned caravans and flooded hotel lobbies  And startling footage shows the strong gales battering the site while a man shouts: “It was lifted up, with people inside ”  Onlookers were shocked as they recorded the incident in the municipality of Sant Antoni, on the island of Ibiza  The storm has been battering the eastern Spanish region of the Balearic Islands for three days now due to a cold front   The Met Office said the storms are expected to continue this week, moving east across the Mediterranean and bringing very heavy showers, hail and thunderstorms, with up to 8in (200mm) of rain expected in some areas  The injured trio were reportedly working at the construction site of a hotel in Cala Gracio when the strong winds lifted a hut on the site  They were taken to the Nuestra Senora del Rosario clinic, with one of the victims in a serious condition and the other two suffering minor injuries  Local media reported firefighters had to cut trees to open a path for the ambulances to take the injured to the hospital  .  Other footage shows a collapsed tree onto a car and local police in Sant Antoni reported that 200 trees had collapsed on Santa Agnes road   The emergency services attended 48 incidents linked with the bad weather conditions and the effects of the cold front that has battered the Balearic Islands since Sunday  Yesterday saw winds of around 62mph in Ibiza where there were also heavy rains of 30 litres per square meter in only 30 minutes  The cold front also affected the eastern Spanish region of Catalonia, where the number of people missing following the flash floods rose to four today  Police confirmed this morning they had found the body of an elderly man on a beach near Arenys de Mar north of Barcelona hours after he was swept away  It’s believed he went out to move a car.  A search operation is continuing for a mother and her grown-up son after their prefabricated home was destroyed by floodwater in Vilaverd, near the east coast of Tarragona  Catalan Interior Minister Miquel Buch has now confirmed search teams are also looking two more missing people in L’Espluga de Francoli a 15-minute drive northwest of Vilaverd  The overturned car they were travelling in has been found in the River Francoli  Firefighters and civil protection officers are working to help deal with the damages caused by the adverse weather
